Who are we
A Kiwi and a Scot with a combined 40 years’ coaching, guiding and instructing experience, a nice-looking and spacious van, and a trailer for every occasion: Highland Yaks has the local and specialist knowledge you need plus the means to take you and your kit right to the heart of your adventure – and get you back for a cuppa afterwards.
Originally from New Zealand, I’ve been living in Scotland with my family since 2010, enjoying everything this fantastic country has to offer and running a set of lodges nearby. Mountain and road cycling are in my top two interests, followed by getting into the hills, golf, fishing, whisky and craft beer. I have my Mountain Bike Leader (MBL) award, I’m a ski instructor and a current first aider.
Born on the West Coast, I’m a Scot through and through. I’ve worked in and around Aviemore for the last 25 years, including as a ski instructor. Driving? I love it, plus anything to do with the water: canoeing, sailing and powerboating. In fact, I’m a canoe guide and a sailing instructor.
The third, essential member of our team is “The Yak Van”, a 9-seater VW Transporter Long Wheelbase Van with special trailers for:
- Canoes, sea kayaks or rafts
- Mountain bikes and road bikes
- Extra luggage, golf clubs etc.
As a team, we’re fully insured to do the type of work we do, and Kelty, Jerry and The Yak Van are appropriately licensed through the Highland Council.
